Beth Hevener Bolvig Knapp, age 83, passed away Wednesday, September 11, two days before her 84th birthday, with her beloved granddaughters and daughter at her side.
Beth was born September 13, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY to Doris Hevener Bolvig and Col. Lawrence J. Bolvig.
She was a student at Packer Collegiate Institute and a graduate of Dundee Central Schools. Beth attended Wagner College and SUNY Cortland, completing a degree in Psychology.
August 18, 1973, Beth married Frederick R. Knapp. The couple moved to Homer, NY in 1978 with their young daughter, Judith E. (Knapp) Murphy. Beth spent many hours volunteering for her church community at the Homer Congregational Church in Homer. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, the music librarian, wrote articles and book reviews for the church newsletter and sang with the choir.
Beth was known for many years as a “professional volunteer.” Beth’s passions included her love for music, cats, the Yankees, writing fiction and anything her daughter Judie was doing. She never missed a game or a concert well into her daughter’s adult years, but comically had often recorded the incorrect score.
Beth was predeceased by her husband, Fred in 1993. Beth is survived by her daughter Judie (Tom) Murphy; her grandchildren Adrianna, Kaedyn and Thomas Murphy; her sister, Laurie Bolvig Buchanan; her step-son Eric (Jean) Knapp and a cousin, Richard Stieg.
Friends, Family and anyone who loved Beth is welcome to a celebration of her life at the United Presbyterian Church, Saturday, September 21 at 11:00 am.
Contributions in Beth’s name may be made to the IHS Choir Fund at the United Presbyterian Church, 25 Church St., Cortland NY 13045, so that her memory may live on through music.
