Aletha Crosley Obituary

Aletha L. Crosley, 95, of Carroway Hill Road, Homer, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 21, 2018 in the Cortland Regional Medical Center.

Born Aletha Mary Long, July 17, 1923, a daughter of the late Lester and Helen Burns Long. She was a 1941 graduate of St. Mary’s School.

Aletha married her husband, Charles R. Crosley on June 17, 1944 in St. Leo’s Church, Tully.

She worked for several years as a crossing guard at the Homer Intermediate and Jr. High School, retiring in 1979. She was also proud of her days as an operator with NY Telephone.  She still enjoyed luncheons with the girls. She was a gentle soul who loved spending time reading, cross stitching, painting and enjoying her family. Special memories were made in all their travels, their camp at Panther Lake and Crosley Christmas celebrations in their home.

Aletha was a member and past president of the Homer American Legion Post 465 Auxiliary.

She was a longtime and faithful communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Homer, serving as president of the Altar & Rosary Society.

Aletha was a loving mother to her six children, Linda Sartwell of Mifflinburg, PA; James Crosley of West Henrietta; Margaret (Paul) Sweeney of Homer; Michael (Anne) Crosley of South Colton; Martin (Diane) Crosley of Marcellus and Mary (Robert) Fratamico of Homer; 18 loving grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; her brother, Lester Long, Jr.  of VA., and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Charles R. ‘Jug’ Crosley in 2012 and two sisters, Rita Hartley and Evelyn Dempsey.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at St. Margaret Catholic Church, 14 Copeland Ave., Homer, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Paul J. Alciati. Aletha will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Glenwood Cemetery in the spring.

The family will receive friends and relatives immediately following Mass, from Noon – 2:00 p.m., in the basement of the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Crosley’s name may be directed to the Homer American Legion Post 465, 63 Main St., Homer, NY 13077 or to the American Heart Association, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220.
