Biography
Leon W. Mallery, 95, of McGraw, NY passed away February 22, 2010 in the Cortland Regional Nursing Facility. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Rena Mallery on February 20, 2010.
He was born in Cortlandville, the son of Ray and Sarah Hall Mallery. He lived in the McGraw area until the last few years.
He always had a big vegetable garden. He liked spending time with his children and when his grandchildren were young, showing them the enjoyment of saddle horses.
As a young man he was a substitute mail carrier for 10 years, delivering mail with a horse and buggy. He owned and operated a dairy farm on South Hill in McGraw until 54 years of age. After 11 years as a glazer, he retired from Overhead Door Company in Cortland. After retirement, he was the custodian for the McGawville Baptist Church for 13 years.
He was a member of the McGrawville Baptist Church for 69 years and a former member of the McGrawville Grange, holding many offices.
Surviving are his children; three daughters, Delores (Ron) Delaney of Auburn; Roberta Reardon of Cortland (former husband, Gary Reardon of McGraw); Linda (Jeff) Schloupt of Cortland; one son, Lynn (Carol Lee) Mallery of Naugatuck, CT; eight grandchildren, Donna Reardon (Pat Predmore), Stacy Reardon (Shawna Gillette), Terence (Charlene) Reardon of McGraw, Carole (David Johnson) Reardon of Aquilla, TX, Michael Delaney of Tampa, FL and Joelle Delaney of Rocky River, OH, Todd (Kasey) Williams of Lafayette, IN and Tim Williams of Bayfield, CO; 10 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; one sister, Lela Mules; also an infant daughter, Donna Lee in 1942.
A celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of his family.
