Tommy Baranska Obituary

Tommy P. Baranska, 76, formerly of Truxton, passed away on Easter morning, March 31, 2024 after his long battle with Parkinson’s and Dementia.  He died at Sunnyside Care Center in East Syracuse, NY where he was a resident since September of 2022.

He was born in Truxton, a son of the late John and Eva Patterson Baranska.

Tommy was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, serving from 1966 – 1968, which included serving in the Vietnam War. Later it was determined that due to his exposure to Agent Orange, Tommy developed Parkinson’s.

Tommy loved the outdoors, the woods, he knew every tree by name, helping others, tending to his garden and giving most of his harvest to others. He was best known for his one-line zingers. He was easy going and loved to make people laugh. He was so proud to be a volunteer with the Truxton Fire Department.

Tommy is survived by his son, Patrick; three grandchildren, Dylan, Scerenia and Ryan, and one great grandson, Liam, all from the Cortland area. Tommy is also survived by his sister & brother-in-law, Alice and Volker Schmidt from Texas, and his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Jean Baranska from South Carolina.

Tommy had many friends who were special and cherished, including Gerrie Marshall from Florida, Kay and Darrell Reakes from Truxton and Lori and Jeff Barney from Truxton. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his mother, Eve, two sisters Jacqueline and Mary, and a brother Johnny.

Graveside services, with Military Honors, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024 in Truxton Cemetery, State Route 13, Truxton. In keeping with Tommy’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.
