Welcome to the memorial page for

Robert W. Campbell

August 19, 1931 ~ August 8, 2016 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Robert W. Campbell, Ph. D., of Little York, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 8, 2016.

He was born August 19, 1931 in Albany, NY, to the late Albert and Blanche Parsons Campbell.

Commander Campbell retired from the United States Navy in 1970, serving on active duty from 1954-1958.

Bob retired from the United States Forest Service where he was an entomologist for more than 30 years.

Bob worked at SU and resided with his family in Cazenovia before moving with the Forest Service to Corvallis, Oregon. After retirement, Bob and his wife returned to the upstate area they both loved. They had a home in Tully and a camp up on Cranberry Lake in the Adirondacks, where Bob had walked and fished the back trails since childhood. His wife Sandy passed away in 1992 while they were living in Italy.

That year of living abroad started a desire to literally see the world. Bob and his partner Judy visited 63 countries. They had just spent January through March in Keri Keri, New Zealand.

He had a great sense of humor and a genuine love of people from all walks of life. He died shortly after a family reunion and was making plans for the future. While those plans sadly won’t happen now, he leaves behind a life well lived, friends and family well loved, and a deep hole filled with wonderful memories.

He is survived by his three daughters and their spouses, Jadi Campbell & Uwe Hartmann of Gerlingen, Germany; Pamela Campbell & Igor Smirnoff of Portland, OR and Barbara Campbell & Javier Cervantes of Corvallis, OR; his grandson, Nikolai Smirnoff of Hong Kong; and his loving partner of 22 years, Judith MacIntire of Little York.

Memorial services, with military honors, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Donald L Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer, NY.

Contributions in Mr. Campbell's name may be directed to the Cranberry Lake Fire Dept. & Rescue, NY-3, Cranberry Lake, NY 12927 (cranberrylakfire.org) or to Amnesty International USA, 5 Penn Plaza, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001 (www.amnestyusa.org/donate-to-amnesty). These two organizations best reflect his love of the Adirondacks and the world.
