Ralph E. Tuttle, 84, of Copeland Ave., Homer passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 in St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse following complications from surgery.
Ralph was born April 9, 1932 a son of the late Jessie and Grace Stone Tuttle. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from August 1 1950 to July 11 1953, serving his country in the Korean War.
He was employed for many years as a construction worker for the Local 589, Ithaca, where he had served as past Union President.
Ralph had a lifetime love of bowling. He was faithful to the friends he had made at Cort-Lanes, bowling there for almost 50 years, serving as a bowling coach and secretary for many, many leagues. He was a member of the Cortland Bowling Hall of Fame.
He was a 40-plus year member of the Homer Lions Club, serving as Past President. He was famous for ‘Rotten Ralph's Roasted Roosters’; setting up, cooking, and tearing down countless chicken barbeques for not only the Lions Club, but for many organizations seeking Ralph’s years of knowledge and experience.
Surviving are two daughters, Tina (Larry) Caldwell of Homer and Carol Compton (Ken Gardner) of Newport, NC; his brother, Allen Tuttle (Sandy) of Moravia; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren in one great-great-grandchild. And a close family friend Denise VanAuken (Mrs. D).
He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce Ann King Tuttle in 2000 and two sons, Gary Tuttle in 2002 and Ralph Tuttle in 2015.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 North Main St., Homer. Burial will be in Atwater Cemetery, Homer when weather permits.
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
