Welcome to the memorial page for

Phyllis Allen Spencer

January 16, 2018

“Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Proverbs 31:29-30

On January 16, 2018, our much beloved mother, mother-in law, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Phyllis Allen Spencer, finished her journey home to heaven to be with her cherished Lord and loved ones who went before her.

Phyllis was an accomplished pianist; vocalist and educator, graduating from Crane School of Music at Potsdam. Her love of music flowed perfectly with her love of children through her teaching privately and in public education.

As a long -time member of the First Baptist Church of Homer, New York, Phyllis served many years as Choir Director.

She loved each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren deeply and prayed for them daily!

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Stephen (Kris) Spencer of Camden, DE, Rebecca (Paul) Fluger of Summerhill, NY, Mark (Gail) Spencer of Cortland, NY, as well as daughter-in-law Suzanne (William) Murphy of Scott, NY.

In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren and their spouses: Carolyn Dunning, Jennifer Amato, Christopher (Missy) Pla, Rachael (Angus) Patterson, Elizabeth Spencer, Susannah Fluger, Sharon Spencer, John (Hannah) Fluger, Margaret Fluger, Simeon Fluger, Cady Spencer, Joel (Elisabeth) Fluger, Laura Spencer, William Fluger, Michelle Spencer, Mary Fluger, and Shannon Spencer, as well as many great-grandchildren.

Phyllis was predeceased by her parents: John T. Allen, Sr. and Katherine Irene Stevens Allen, her brother John T. Allen, and her son Daniel W. Spencer.

In honor of Phyllis’s wishes, there will be a private service for immediate family in the spring.
