Mary S. Townley

Mary S. Townley, 97, formerly of 35 Cayuga Street, Homer, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017.

A resident of Homer for 58 years, Mary was born October 4, 1919 in Warren, Ohio, a daughter of the late Harry and Susie Collins Sample

Mary was a longtime and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Homer.

She retired, after ten years of service, from the Homer Central School District where she was a school nurse teacher. She had also practiced nursing in hospitals, the private and corporate sector and as a public health nurse.

Surviving is her son, H. Jay (Angela) Townley of Liverpool, daughter-in-laws Marilyn Townley & Vivien Townley; eight grandchildren, Gregory, Robin, Debbie, Matthew, Robert, Shannon, Heather, and Lauren; three step grandchildren, Rusty McCarthy, Lisa Swanson and Jeff McCarthy; 11 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Mary was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, John “Dale” Townley in 2007; and two sons, Gregory D. Townley, Sr. and Joel L. Townley as well as two great granddaughters, Jennifer Hebert and Morgan Mouton.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church of Homer, 20 Cayuga St., Homer. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer.

The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
