Mary D. Carr

Mary D. Carr, of Cortland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the Cortland Regional Medical Center on October 14, 2016.

She was born May 20, 1920 in Truxton, NY, the daughter of John E and Margaret M O'Brien O'Donnell.

She graduated as valedictorian in the first graduating class (1938) of Truxton Central School.         

Prior to her retirement, Mary worked many years in the Fabius-Pompey school district as the high school cafeteria Manager and was an avid sports enthusiast.

Mary took great joy in spending time with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren over the years.

Surviving are her children, Lawrence (Patricia) Carr of Lafayette; Wesley (Adrienne) Carr of Bradenton, FL; Janice ( Anthony) LaGreca of Duxbury, MA; Steven ( Patricia) Carr of Marion, NY and Kathleen Jenks of Syracuse; her siblings, Edwin O'Donnell  of Cortland and Leo O'Donnell of Canastota, NY. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Calling Hours will be from 4:00-6:00PM on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the Donald L Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00AM on Monday, October 17, 2016 in St. Margaret’s Church, 14 Copeland Ave, Homer, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev.  Paul Alciati, Pastor.

Committal prayers will be offered at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Rt. 13, Truxton on Monday at 2:30PM.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the very kind and loving care the wonderful people at Cedar Run in the Cortland Regional Medical Center provided to our mother.
