Hilary J. Brown

Hilary J. Brown, 90, of Little York Lake Rd., Little York, passed away while under the care of Hospice and her loving family.

Born November 26, 1926 in Nantwich, England, she served in British Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes (NAAFI) during World War II.

She also worked in several factories in the London area, surviving air attacks from the axis powers during the Battle of Britain.  Hilary, at the completion of the war, came to the US with her American husband, George T. Brown.  Shortly after George’s death, due to an untreated war related injury, Hilary returned to England.  In 1960, Hilary came back to the U.S. with her family and second husband, Steve Brown and settled in Rochester, NY.

Hilary was a deep thinker and philosopher who enjoyed writing poetry. She was warm and generous by nature but wasn’t afraid to engage in lively debates over religion or politics.

Surviving are her two children, Suzanne G. Luety of Little York and Christopher R. Brown of Victor, NY; her grandchildren, William Luety, III, of Cortland; Joshua Brown, currently serving in the US Navy in San Diego, CA; Audrey Brown of Victor and Lee Luety of Cortland. Also surviving is her sister, Christina Cowling of Sussex, England; six great grandchildren, Gabriella, William, IV, Hilary and Lillian Luety; Rachel Smith and Quaintance Brown.

In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Kristen J. Luety-Smith.

In keeping with Hilary’s wishes, services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
