Gerald W. Sherman, 95, of Willowbrook Manor, Dryden, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.
A lifelong area resident, he was born October 24, 1921 a son of the late Ward and Hazel Cotterill Sherman.
In 1946 Gerald and his wife, Ardella started Jerry Dell Farm in Dryden with 6 cows and a team of horses. The farm, now owned and operated by the 3rd generation of Sherman’s, operates four farms in the Dryden, Groton and Freeville area. After selling the farm in 1976, he took a job at Pioneer Hybrid Seed Co. where he was a well-respected sales representative in the Cortland and Tompkins County areas for 17 years.
Gerald was a former member of Memorial Baptist Church and was active for many years in the South Cortland Grange.
Surviving are his four children Elaine A. Mallison of Binghamton; Sharon I. (Thomas) Shaw of Dryden; Brent L. Sherman of Cortland and Vaughn M. (Susan) Sherman of Dryden; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ardella May Sherman in 2005; two sisters and a brother.
In keeping with Gerald’s wishes, services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Sherman’s name may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
