Betty J. McCracken

Betty Jane McCracken, 86, of West Cheningo Road, Truxton, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018 in the Cortland Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

A lifelong area resident, she was born in Cortland on March 26, 1931. She married Harold E. McCracken on May 29, 1949.

Betty retired in 1992 from Smith Corona. She also helped out on the family farm in Truxton.

She was a longtime member of the Truxton Grange.

Betty was a loving and supportive mother who will be missed by her ten children, Sandra (Donald) Beahm of Flint Hill, VA; Eva (Elmer) Narrow of Homer; James (Donna) McCracken of Truxton; Harold (Karen) McCracken and Phillip (Roxanne) McCracken of Hume, VA; Gary (Sue) McCracken of Cortland; David (Kathy) McCracken of Truxton; Christine (Mike) Tabolt of Croghan, NY; Barbara (Gene) Barbarito of Gouverneur, NY and George (Brenda) McCracken of Cortland; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Fred Harvey of Cortland and William Harvey of McGraw; her sister, Kathleen Morey of Groton and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by husband; Harold E. “Teeny” McCracken in 2013 and by her son; Paul J. McCracken in 1979.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer. Interment in Truxton Rural Cemetery will be delayed until spring.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
